Meet the Planner: Hi! It's me, Emily

Updated: May 18

Hello readers!

Wedding Planner, Emily

I am Emily, the heart behind All The Little Things Events. I am so happy to finally be here in the events space and I would like to share a bit more about my journey and why I made the change into event planning.

Where I come from

Before becoming a wedding planner, I started my life as most kids do, playing, making friends and dreaming about what I wanted to be when I grew up.

Ballerina, Emily

My first big dream in life was to become a ballerina. I was that little five year old girl at the Nutcracker ballet watching the sugar plum fairy and her cavalier perform their infamous pas de duex, when I turned to my mom and told her, "I am going to do that." I spent the next eight years dancing five days a week, commuting between cities and dancing in hundreds of Nutcracker performances. By the time I was 13, I was moved to professional ballet boarding school and landed the role of Clara with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. The following year, due to injury and inspiring science and math teachers, I decided to return home and pursue academics, turning ballet from my profession into a hobby.

Physicist, Emily

At the age of 16, I shifted my primary focus to science. Physics resonated with me, even as a dancer in learning to pirouette. I twirled (falling many times) my way through school, summer internships, and crossed the finish line with my PhD. I loved experimenting and problem solving in the lab. After spending a few more years working in the high-tech industry, developing and building lasers, I realized it was time to move forward into the next part of my life and pursue my passion: event planning!

Why event planning?

Now, I know this transition may seem a bit unconventional, but, I love planning and adore watching people experience joy. Over the past year, I took the time to think deeply, reflect on the skillsets I genuinely love using, and identify my core values: Ambition, Dependability, Creativity and Family. What I discovered was that I needed to find a path where I could live by my values every day and have more fun. Physics was not that. I need to show up as me, every single day. Being a planner and entrepreneur is that. Not too mention that organizing, spreadsheets, creative and systematic problem solving, tiny details, making a vision come to life are my absolute jam.

In each big step in my life, I have had people tell me I can't do it. But I did it anyways.

So here I am!

Other things to know about me:

In my Mom era: I am a very proud mom of two toddlers. They keep me busy and I love watching them learn about the world and I can't wait to help them with their homework.

Travel: I love to travel (even though its been a while). I have lived in Italy (studying art) and Brazil and traveled all across North America, Europe and Japan.

Music: I am a Swifty through and through. If I have headphones on, I am likely jamming to Taylor.
